Must Have Airbnb Bedroom Essentials
In this post I’m listing all the must-have Airbnb bedroom essentials products I buy and use for all the bedrooms in my Airbnbs, short term and mid-term rentals. I’ve hosted hundreds of guests in the past two years so these products are tried and tested first hand. Some of them are so good that I personally use them in my own home.

The bedroom is one of the most important rooms in your Airbnb, short term or mid term rental. It’s the place where your guests spend the most amount of time and where they rest and recharge for their next day full of adventures. As such, it’s important that it’s comfortable, cozy, clean and quiet. I strive to make it just as comfortable as the bed they have in their own home.

I cannot wait to sleep in my own bed after returning from vacation. There’s something so safe and nostalgic about sleeping in my own bed. That’s the feeling I want to bring to the bedrooms at my properties. It all starts with a comfortable bed, clean linens, and cozy pillows and throws.
These are the must have airbnb bedroom essentials:
Mattress
A good night’s sleep is priceless. The comfort of your guest starts with the most comfortable bed mattress, pillows and linens that you can afford. However, it doesn’t have to break your bank. The minimum size of bed I put in my bedrooms is a Queen-size bed. It can comfortably sleep 2 people and fits in most bedrooms. I then like to offer 4 pillows per bed, dress the mattress with a zippered mattress protector, fitted sheet, loose sheet, and a down alternative with duvet cover.
Comfortable Mattress: I’ve stayed at Airbnb’s that offer Casper or Purple mattresses and they’re very comfortable. If you don’t want to buy a new high-end mattress, you can look at OfferUp for anyone who is selling used mattresses. I’ve had huge success there. The mattresses are brand new or close to new. Costco sometimes offers great deals on high-end mattresses.
Personally I don’t invest $1,000 in a mattress. Instead, I look around on OfferUp (there’s a ton of mattress sellers) for new foam mattresses. I choose foam mattresses because they’re more comfortable than pillow-top mattresses and I think they last longer.
My other go-to place for mattresses is Amazon. Their Zinus 10″ Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress: is very comfortable, they ship for free and are so easy to assemble. For obvious reasons a mattress is a must-have Airbnb Bedroom Essentials.
Bed Platform
Platform Bed Frames: I usually go for bedframes without the headboard that are simple and preferably made of wood. My favorite bedroom frame is this wood one from Amazon Mellow 12″ Classic Solid Wood Platform Bed Frame. It’s very easy to assemble and it looks great in the room. I personally haven’t purchased any headboards yet, because I haven’t found any that are stylish and affordable. So far no one has complained. I lean the pillows against the wall. Alternatively, I’m planning on painting a mural behind the bed to act as a faux headboard.
I add a metal daybed frame in the living room when space allows to advertise that I can sleep one more person. I buy a comfortable twin size mattress with a mattress topper if needed for more comfort.
Linens | Pillows
- Mattress and Pillow Protector: This is a crucial item to have to ensure the cleanliness and longevity of your mattress and pillow. People inevitably sweat or spill liquid on your bed, so protecting these is very important if you don’t want to replace them often. Always buy a few zippered pillow protectors for the pillows so that you can wash them every other month and I keep a few handy in the storage closet. I get the completely zippered one to ensure there’s no bed bugs either.
These are the ones I buy for the mattress and for the pillow
SafeRest Zippered Mattress Protector and AllerEase Pillow Protectors.
- Fresh linens and pillows: This is a no-brainer! Ensure enough clean sets for each guest, plus a couple of extras for unexpected spills. For each property, I have 3 sets of linens and duvet covers. That way, my cleaners can change the bed linens without needing to wash during their cleaning. We then take the dirty laundry to a wash-and-fold laundromat service. I love using the laundromat service because they look out for any stains, wash and sanitize with really hot water and fold our linens ready for our next guest.
My favorite place to purchase pillows are from Costco. They typically come in a pair and they’re about $10 each. My next favorite pillow is from Amazon Utopia Bedding Pillows.
For linens I love the Amazon Bedsure Microfiber Bed Sheets. The colors are durable and look great in the bedroom. I stay away from white linens because they stain and yellow easily.
Lastly, I buy the Utopia Bedding Comforter for All Season and buy 3 Bedsure Duvet Cover with Zipper Closure in the same color as the bedsheets.
Nightstands | Lamps | Tableware
I love having nightstands and lamps next to my bed. It’s a great place for setting down phones for the night, placing books and glasses of water, and even store books and journals. The size of the nightstand depends on the size of the bedroom and how much space you’ll end up after placing the bed. I consider these items Airbnb bedroom essentials.
- Nightstands: As a rule of thumb, my nightstands are just as tall, or a little shorter than the height of the bed. I like to get the modern ones, with only one drawer (the more drawers the more expensive it is) to minimize any cleaning inside the drawer. I place one on each side of the bed and put a lamp on each night stand.
I love these rattan nightstands from Amazon.
- Lamp: I usually buy the ones with a USB socket to charge phones. I always go for warm lights and make sure that the lamp I get isn’t any harsh or direct lights. Getting the lamps with shades works well too because you can provide light for reading or cozying up before bed and without needing to turn on the overhead lights. You can really go decorative here and choose a unique lamp for the bedroom.
This is an example of a lamp from Amazon I’d get if my theme was mid-century modern.
- Floor Lamp: Alternatively, you can get a floor lamp and place an armchair on the corner of the room if space allows for it. I love floor lamps because they look great and create a soothing and warm ambiance in any room.
I like browsing the Hearth & Hand and Studio McGee’s collection with Target to find nice looking floor lamps. Amazon also has really nice floor lamps for any budget. This is one of my favorites.
Window Coverings
Window coverings help bring together a bedroom and help with blank walls (if you don’t hang any artwork or macrame). I usually install a double curtain rod over every window. The rod usually overhangs 12” past the window corner and it’s at least 6” above the head height of the window. The curtains I buy are 84” tall because I like when the curtains barely graze the floor. This setting is optimal to block out most of the morning sunlight.
- Blackout curtains or blinds: Ensure guests can get a good night’s sleep by blocking out light. I prefer blackout curtains over blinds because you can easily install them, change them and wash them as needed.
I like these Amazon Basics Room Darkening Blackout curtains.
- Sheer curtains: To complete the window coverings I like to add a layer of sheer curtains to the rod closest to the window. These curtains let light into the room and still feel private and prevent people from looking in.
Cozy Items to Have
These items help cozy up the room. They’re not must-haves, but nice to have and bring warmth and extra coziness to your Airbnb bedroom.
- Cozy blankets and throws: Great for layering up for different comfort levels and seasons. My go-to places for cozy blankets and throws are HomeGoods and Target. You can easily go and grab what you need and can browse their selections. It’s a great item to have around the house and in storage.
- Area rug: It gives extra coziness to any bedroom. It should be large enough so the bed covers at least half of it. I like using plush rugs that are dark in color. Best place to buy these are HomeGoods (to browse them physically), Ruggable (for washable rugs), Wayfair, and Rugs USA.
- Artwork or macrame: Artwork helps fill the “emptiness” of a room and any bare walls. I personally like purchasing unique art from local artists. Skip the generic art from HomeGoods and support your local artists. I’ve also experimented with hiring artists to paint a mural on a wall and it’s worked wonders! One of my Airbnb’s with an artwork mural is booked solid months in advance!
- Plants: I love some greenery in a space. You can opt to have real plants (although make sure your cleaning crew or your guests are watering them) or fake plants like I do. I like putting a vase or pot with flowers and plants on the nightstands for extra coziness.
Closet Items
- Full length mirror: I cannot tell you the amount of Airbnb’s I’ve stayed at where they don’t provide a full-length mirror! I consider it an important Airbnb bedroom essentials item to have, especially because guests want to look good when they go out and explore places. It also lets you decorate the bedroom by choosing eclectic mirror designs. You can either hang it on the wall, just lean it or buy a freestanding one. I recommend at least 21″ wide, the wider the better.
This is a great example of a cute Arched Full Length Free Standing Mirror. - Clothes hangers: Ample clothes hangers in the closet or on a rack keep clothes wrinkle-free. It’s nice to give the option to your Airbnb guests to hang their delicate clothes rather than grab them from their suitcases. If you don’t have a dedicated closet in the bedroom, I recommend at least putting a clothes rack. It doesn’t have to be large and complicated. Something simple goes a long way and it makes the space look great too.
